What to wear?! This could be the most stressful aspect of a photo session, perhaps because it is also the most important. Just remember to stay true to your own style and personality.
First determine what type of portrait you are looking for: Casual or formal.
For casual portraits you can wear jeans and t-shirts. For a family or group you do not all need to wear the same colors, but make sure the colors you use complement each person in the shoot. AVOID loud patterns and logos/writings/photos on shirts. Make sure not EVERYONE is wearing patterns (plaids, stripes, polka dots, etc.). Accessorize with shoes, hats and jewelry but avoid large pieces or earrings that will draw attention away from you.
For formal portraits, usually in a studio setting, wear something dressy. Dark colors are slimming and long sleeves photograph well. As in a casual portrait avoid loud patterns or logos/writings/photos.
In any case bring various changes of clothes in different styles and colors.
Whatever the setting you choose your clothes should fit (not too big or too small), be clean and wrinkle-free. You should feel comfortable and love what you are wearing. You want to look your best!
